Description
Hello. My name is Konomi Yajima. I am a teacher in North London offering Japanese lessons. As a native Japanese speaker I love to teach Japanese and talk about Japanese culture.
I would be delighted to help you to learn Japanese and practise speaking, listening, reading and writing the language.
The courses are suitable for beginners to intermediates, and will explore Japanese culture as well as the language. They are general Japanese courses including some elements for JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test). In my lessons I mainly use 'GENKI' as a textbook.
We can discuss everything from imperial history to manga, art and calligraphy to Karaoke, tea ceremonies to sushi, origami etc. Together we will work on vocabulary and pronunciation so that you can use Japanese independently to talk about the subjects that interest you. I teach speaking, listening, reading and writing in Japanese.

My experience & qualifications:
I enjoy talking to people from different cultures to learn more about their home country and I am more than happy to share my experiences about Japan.
In 2003 I took a Japanese Teachers' Training Course validated by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. Since then I have taught Japanese to people from all around the world. One of my students enjoyed it so much she went on to study Japanese at School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), University of London. One is now reading 'Japanese Study' at Durham University.
In 2003 I was awarded PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) by Institute of Education University of London. I also attained Master of Arts degree in Teaching in the Post Compulsory Sector in 2008 at the same institution.
One meets potential students of Japanese in all sorts of places. I was in a Japanese restaurant in central London with a friend. There was a young couple at the next table. They were Italian. We started chatting in English. The young man was looking for Japanese tuition. As he discovered I taught Japanese, he agreed to take lessons with me. They happened to live a five minute walk from where I live in North London.
Some of my students enjoyed traveling in Japan. Some are looking forward to their trip to Japan in the near future. I enjoy sharing my experience in Japanese culture (i.e. Nihon Buyo - traditional Japanese dance in Kimono, Karate etc.) and relevant information with my students. The Japan Matsuri (festival) in Trafalgar Square in London is held in Autumn.
