MiFID / MiFIR Regulatory Specialist

Contract End Date: August 31, 2026

Daily Rate: £450 - £500 (inside IR35 via umbrella)

Hybrid working - 3 days in Belfast and 2 days remote working (non negotiable)

About the Role:

Our client is seeking a skilled MiFID / MiFIR Regulatory Specialist to work in their 1st Line of Defence Risk and Control team. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the 1st Line Regulation Lead in managing compliance with the UK and EU Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation and Directive (MiFID/R). We are looking for a proactive individual who exhibits ownership, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results.

In this role, you will coordinate with various internal stakeholders across multiple businesses and functions to ensure compliance with MiFID/R regulations in relevant jurisdictions. The oversight programme will encompass all business units, including Markets, Banking, Services, and Wealth Management.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate MiFID/R governance forums to ensure effective oversight and compliance.

Collaborate with business units to assess control effectiveness and manage residual risks through the Risk and Control Self-Assessment process.

Oversee issue management, ensuring timely remediation of identified issues.

Develop, monitor, and report key performance and risk metrics related to MiFID/R.

Manage the MiFID/R publications within the Citi Regulations inventory, ensuring accuracy and compliance timelines.

Maintain a comprehensive reference control library for all UK/EU MiFID/R obligations.

Support MiFID/R control enhancement projects and the implementation of new controls.

Assist in the development and execution of MiFID training and communication programmes for front office and 1st Line of Defence staff.

Provide guidance to EU countries on the control framework to promote overall UK and EU MiFID/R compliance health.

Ensure timely escalation of issues to the Regulation Lead.

Liaise with Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, and other control functions to maintain an effective control framework.Qualifications & Skills:

Practical experience in Financial Services, with a background in consulting, business management, business risk, or advisory compliance.

Strong understanding of EU/UK MIFIR/MIFID II or other major European or US regulations.

Demonstrated experience in regulation implementation, change programmes, and delivering high-quality work products.

Proficient in utilising technology to design and implement process improvements.

Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Creative and efficient in handling time-sensitive demands from various stakeholders.

Effective communicator with the ability to clearly articulate issues and ideas to internal stakeholders.
