Behaviour Support Assistant

SEMH School – Blackburn – Up to 600 per week – Full–Time

Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Do you have the confidence and resilience to work with pupils who present challenging behaviour in a primary setting?

A well–established Primary SEMH specialist school in Blackburn is seeking a committed Behaviour Support Assistant to work closely with pupils requiring additional emotional and behavioural support. This is a demanding yet highly rewarding role, ideal for individuals with strong resilience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

The Role – Behaviour Support Assistant

In this Behaviour Support Assistant role, you will support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, delivering 1:1 and small–group interventions to help them engage with learning and develop positive behavioural patterns.

You will play a central role in managing challenging behaviour, using structured and consistent strategies to support emotional regulation and effectively de–escalate situations. Building strong, trusting relationships is key, as you will act as a reliable and positive role model for pupils who need stability, guidance, and encouragement.

You will be supporting pupils with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, and trauma–related behaviours, helping them overcome barriers and build confidence both in and out of the classroom.
