Prince of Wales Bridge Special Bridge Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM)

The Opportunity

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Section Engineer to join their Special Bridge Inspection and Maintenance (SBIM) team, supporting the ongoing maintenance and renewal of the iconic Prince of Wales Bridge.

Working in partnership with National Highways, our client is responsible for maintaining some of the UK's most critical infrastructure assets. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in ensuring the continued safety, reliability and longevity of one of the country's most important strategic crossings.

As Section Engineer, you will support the successful delivery of inspection, maintenance and renewal works, coordinating engineering activities from planning through to completion while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Section Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the delivery of bridge inspection, maintenance and renewal projects from planning through to completion. Taking ownership of allocated work packages, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within budget. Undertaking site inspections, engineering surveys, defect assessments and technical investigations. Coordinating site activities, including access arrangements, traffic management and works planning. Providing engineering support throughout construction and maintenance activities. Preparing and reviewing engineering documentation, including RAMS, permits, inspection records and technical reports. Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, National Highways standards and company procedures. Carrying out quality inspections, testing and assurance activities to ensure works meet required specifications. Managing and coordinating subcontractors and specialist suppliers on site. Maintaining accurate engineering records, asset information and site documentation. Monitoring project progress, identifying risks and supporting programme reporting. Building strong working relationships with National Highways, internal delivery teams, designers and supply chain partners. What We're Looking For

Qualifications

HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience) Valid CSCS Card Working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (desirable) Skills & Knowledge

Good understanding of bridge structures, inspections and maintenance activities. Knowledge of highways and civil engineering standards and specifications. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical documents and inspection reports. Strong planning, organisational and coordination skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other engineering software. Experience

Previous experience within highways, bridge maintenance or civil engineering environments. Experience supporting maintenance, inspection or capital delivery projects. Experience coordinating subcontractors and site activities. Understanding of defect management, asset records and quality assurance processes. Knowledge of CDM Regulations, health & safety legislation and safe systems of work.
