Position: Principal EC&I Engineer

Location: Cumbria - able to consider Warrington/Abingdon

Working Pattern: Hybrid, 2 days a week onsite

Contract Type: PERM

Salary: Competitive

Principal EC&I Design Engineer

This role will lead EC&I design activity within either a dedicated design team or a wider multi-disciplinary project environment. You'll contribute technical leadership across the full delivery lifecycle, from early concept through detailed design, manufacture, and commissioning, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide EC&I leadership on design projects, including planning, coordination, and technical assuranceDeliver EC&I engineering input when working within partner or framework teamsSupport bid and tender activity, including technical content and documentationDevelop and manage EC&I cost estimates, schedules, and technical requirementsTranslate customer needs and early concepts into practical, compliant design solutionsPresent and defend designs at reviews and client-facing meetingsProduce high-quality engineering outputs aligned with applicable standards and proceduresPromote best practice in safety, security, and quality, setting the benchmark within the EC&I disciplineActively contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management SystemMaintain up-to-date technical knowledge, adopting new tools, technologies, and approaches where beneficialExperience & Qualifications

Around 8+ years' professional experience in EC&I designBEng (Hons) in Electrical, Electronic, or a closely related engineering disciplineChartered Engineer status, or working towardsSC clearance held or willingness to obtainExperience working in nuclear or other highly regulated environmentsStrong understanding of EC&I integration within complex projectsProven delivery across all phases of the design lifecycleKnowledge of plant and documentation configuration controlExperience producing and reviewing EC&I designs, calculations, EMC assessments, and supporting documentationBackground in machinery and process plant systems, including obsolescence considerationsKey Skills

Confident communicator with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationshipsTechnically curious, with the confidence to tackle complex engineering challenges independently
