Description
Our client is looking for a Lead Project Engineer to own the signalling project engineering on their programme from the client side. You will carry the project technical engineering leadership of the CCS scheme from early concept work through detailed design, construction, testing and commissioning, and final handback. You sequence the engineering, maintain technical ownership across the programme, and act as the intelligent client for signalling matters. When technical questions come in from the contractor, you know which ones you can address and which ones you route to the subject matter experts within your organisation.
You will lead the engineering assurance of CCS design and construction against the client's technical requirements, standards and specifications, supported by Senior CCS engineers in dedicated technical assurance roles. You will manage interfaces between the CCS contracts and the wider railway systems contracts, including stations, civils, power and telecommunications. You will communicate technical requirements to the supply chain clearly, respond to contractor queries, and make sure that design, construction and commissioning outputs meet what was asked for. You will also discharge Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015 and NEC3 Supervisor duties within your scope.
This is a permanent position, client side.
What you need to bring
You will be a signalling engineer at the most senior project engineering level. Your background must include high–speed or main line railway signalling, covering CCS design, installation, testing and commissioning. You understand what a high–speed CCS scheme involves at each stage of its development, and you have worked across more than one of those stages in a hands–on engineering role.
You will know how to manage the interface between client requirements and contractor engineering, and how to provide technical direction without micromanaging the supply chain's own designers. Experience of multi–discipline coordination, working alongside civils, systems integration, power and telecoms engineers, is important. So is familiarity with CDM 2015 Principal Designer duties and NEC3 contract administration.
Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent standing through a relevant professional institution, is expected.
Useful to have
Experience on major UK rail infrastructure programmes, including schemes procured through large joint–venture supply chains. Familiarity with Common Safety Method for Risk Assessment. A background that spans concept and scheme stages as well as construction and commissioning, rather than one end of the lifecycle.
