Whippet for Rehoming

Description

We are looking to rehome our beloved whippet Willow who is 2 years old.

We have had Willow since December 2023. She is 3/4 Whippet and 1/4 Belgian Malinois which is the same breed as a police dog.

She is a brilliant dog and very well behaved. She is very loving and needs a lot of attention (albeit she will sleep most of the day) but she is simply incompatible with our home.

Given her breed, when guests enter the home that she does not see often or does not know, she greets them with a very aggressive bark and it can be intimidating but settles down after 60 seconds once she realises they are welcome. As soon as we tell her off, she instantly stops and runs away.

She is good with other dogs but she is quite anxious. She’s very loving and playful.

The reason we are looking to rehome her is because we have a 1 year old. He is very hands on and sometimes a bit too hands on with Willow. We always intervene when Willow is uncomfortable or he is being over the top but it is very difficult to manage all of the time. Sometimes she will growl at him when he is in the vicinity but she has never gone for him. Her defence mechanism is to lick his face which he loves. But we simply cannot take the risk of anything happening.

I have to be honest in that we will be very selective with who Willow goes to. It’s a very difficult decision to rehome her because she is incredibly affectionate and well behaved and we love her to bits.

Unfortunately, we simply do not have the spare time or resources to train this out of her. We would not feel comfortable with her going to a house with young children.

Crate trained, toilet trained. Fine if left alone for a few hours. She is healthy, has no medical issues and is up to date on flea/worming etc.
