Description

Please only read and enquiry if you are an experienced Dachshund owner.
This little guy Hector was rescued from an unexperienced dog owner, who locked him in a cage, tired him to a chair and was shown no love or attention, he came into my care a year ago at the age of 6months old, after his previous owner threatened to “Dump him”. I am not an experienced Dachshund owner, but could not see the little guy being dump or worse losing his life, so agreed to take him in. He came to me with no name, other than what was printed on his pedigree papers- which the previous owner gave to me, he had no socialization skills. We welcomed him into our home, have shown him daily love and attention but unfortunately Hector suffers with server separation anxiety and cannot be left alone and needs an experienced owner, who has the time to spend with him, building his confidence and unfortunately due to my own health declining daily and my little boy- who loves this dog so much, having allergic reactions to him, every time he touches him- I have had to make the heart breaking decision that its time to find his forever home. Hector is such a loving dog and has become so protective of my house that he struggles with new people coming into the home and will bark, we have spent time with him being on his lead when the person arrives and allowing him to interact with the person and once he see’s they are not a threat, he calms down and by time the person leaves- they are best friends.
He loves to play tug of war, loves to destroy toys within seconds, loves to play ball but has not yet learnt that he is meant to release the ball once caught. He is used to other animals including cats, so can be rehomed with cats (he however does like to try and hump my pure black cat, but think this is due to him trying to be the alpha male). He loves to sit in the sunshine and under the duvet cover and loves nothing more but to snuggle up with myself to watch tv. Hector is toilet trained, but again has the typical dachshund trait of it its wet/ cold outside- he will find a nice warm spot indoors- but after months of research , this is very common with this breed and Hector is, as I have been told by so many other dachshund owners, your typical dachshund who loves to bark at “thin air” and has little dog syndrome and whilst out walking- likes to let people know he is “a big boy” and will bark at random people (he is very selective).Hector is not a bad dog, is just misunderstood and needs an experienced Dachshund owner, who knows their ways and is able to work with him.
Hector is chipped, up to date with his vacations, flea and worm treatment, insured and has had no health condition’s since being in my care. Hector is not yet neutered as was advised by the vet / other Dachshund owners to wait until he was over a year / 2 years old to have him done, he does have an extra dew claw on his back leg, that again the vet advised me against having it removed, until he was neutered or if it caused him any issues- which is doe not even bother him. Hector is KC registered, and I have all paperwork for this and this is such a heart breaking decision, I never planned for him to stay as long as he has, but I know its now time to find his forever home.
