VINTAGE EPSON PSE 30 (Model E111OU) XT COMPUTER – EXTREMELY RARE!!
This is a very rare opportunity to purchase a classic vintage Epson PSE 30 computer and keyboard.
Believed to date from the late 1980’s or early 1990’s, it is in outstanding condition overall (but see also below).
This model is understood to be an improved IBM PS/2 model 30 ‘clone’, with an 8086 CPU and 640k of RAM. There are apparently MCGA graphics built into the motherboard (alternatively a VGA graphics card could be easily fitted). There are also 4 No. full-length card expansion slots to a ‘riser board’.
Both the rear keyboard and mouse sockets are PS/2 type.
There is a 720k 3½“ floppy disk drive – no hard drive is currently fitted.
The keyboard is an Epson model Q203A (and is the heaviest k/board I’ve ever come across!). It is fitted with the standard DIN plug, but a DIN to PS/2 adapter is also included (see photo). At the time of listing, a further identical example of this keyboard is listed on eBay for £66 (inc. P&P)!
Amazingly, the original Epson PC Reference Disk (containing utility software) is still with this machine (see photo – but this is not a boot disk)!
A UK mains power lead (kettle type) is included in this sale.
This machine was working perfectly in 2021 before going into dry storage. It currently refuses to boot – possibly due to the demise of the motherboards rechargeable CMOS battery? – however, this is of the plug-in type (no soldering!) so replacement should be both simple and straightforward should that prove to be the problem.
THE MONITOR SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS IS ONLY TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THIS COMPUTER WAS IN WORKING ORDER IN 2021 – IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE!
I looked online for further information about this machine and found a most interesting item on the ‘ancientelectronics’ website. This suggests that the PSE 30 might be a rebadged Epson Equity 1e – the photos of that model are certainly pretty much identical to the PSE 30!
