VINTAGE FRENCH FISHING BOX SEAT BASKET, HAND MADE, FOUR TRAY/COMPARTMENT, 42cm tall 39cm long 27cm wide - 1970s - REDUCED!

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

One of several angling related items we got from a Vide Maison in Blacy in the Champagne region, this fishing box apparently belonged to a relative of the owner who was a semi-professional match angler and dates to the mid 1970s.

Hand built, it is constructed from wood, both softwood and what appears in some cases mahogany sheets, with a hinged vinyl seat.
Sound and sturdy with three hinged upper trays, a large lower box tray, and a tatty but secure strap.
Retro in appearance this is still sound and usable for it’s intended purpose or as an unusual storage box, child’s seat, or just as a decorative display item…

In good vintage condition with some wear, old woodworm and staining consistent with it’s age and use but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.

Sturdy enough to sit on, I’ve sat on it.
Constructed from a wooden frame and top box and wooden sheets, some of which I’m advised are mahogany - see photos.
Structurally sound with the odd small split, there is no movement at the dovetailed joints.
NOTE: has some old woodworm, mostly to the lower left side, which I have treated - see photos.
The seat cushion is still spongy and the vinyl is still sound and intact with a little staining and a crease in it.
The wooden sheet panels are worn with some staining, presumably from use and getting wet when fishing, but sound - see photos.
I think all surfaces may have been originally varnished but I’m not certain.
They have been wiped down and given a coat of wax by me.
The hinges are a rusted but sound, as are the latches.
The seat opens smoothly to reveal a top tray, with two further hinges trays underneath (three in total),
They open in a similar way to reveal the bottom tackle box.
The front clasps still work as they should.
The interior is worn and stained but sound.
The base is in similar condition.
The strap is in tatty but sound, condition.
The feet are in similar condition.
I can find no maker’s but the vinyl underside of the seat is marked: SOUDEXVINYL

39 cm long,
27 cm wide at the feet,
34 cm x 23 cm at the top,
Weighs about 3 kg
