Job Title: Damp and Mould Surveyor

Location: South East London

Rate: 32 – 40 per hour

Contract Type: Temporary

Start Date: ASAP

Working Pattern: Full–time

Job Overview:

We are currently seeking an experienced Damp and Mould Surveyor to join a well–established local authority in South East London. This role is pivotal in addressing the increasing demand for damp, mould, and disrepair inspections, ensuring tenant safety and compliance with housing standards.

As a Damp and Mould Surveyor, you will be responsible for inspecting residential properties, identifying root causes of damp and mould issues, specifying remedial works, and overseeing their completion. You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, and tenants to deliver timely and effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct detailed inspections of properties to assess damp, mould, and condensation–related issues

Identify root causes and determine appropriate remedial actions

Prepare detailed reports, schedules of works, and specifications

Issue works orders to contractors and monitor progress through to completion

Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act

Liaise with tenants to explain findings, proposed actions, and manage expectations

Work closely with maintenance, asset management, and legal disrepair teams

Support legal cases by providing evidence, expert opinions, and court–ready reports if required

Maintain accurate records and update asset databases where necessary

Candidate Requirements:

Proven experience in damp and mould surveying within the social housing sector

In–depth knowledge of building pathology related to damp, mould, and disrepair

Understanding of HHSRS, Decent Homes Standard, and other relevant legislation

Strong report writing and diagnostic skills

Ability to manage a caseload independently and meet deadlines

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Relevant qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, or equivalent experience

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
