Bournemouth, Dorset
£425
Description
This is the Fontenay console or desk by British designer Steuart Padwick, a piece inspired by the poise and balance of the ballet dancer Dame Margot Fonteyn. The splayed legs and soft curves reflect the elegance she was known for, giving the collection its name and distinctive character.
The Fontenay range is now discontinued. Steuart Padwick passed away in 2023 and interest in his earlier work has grown since. Pieces from discontinued collections often become sought after by collectors and design lovers. Although future value can never be guaranteed, items like this tend to hold their value well and may rise over time as fewer remain available.
This example is in beautiful condition. It has a solid oak frame with walnut veneer on the top and drawer fronts and it comes with the original protective glass top which has kept the surface in excellent shape. It is ideal as a hallway console, home office desk or statement feature in a living space.
