Description
Incredibly Rare High Interior Design Art 1930/50s Period Terrazzo & Wrought-Iron Table Suite (3) - So Rare
Mediterranean Modern | Boutique Interior Piece
Likely Italian or French in origin, circa 1930s–1950s this suite reflects the enduring influence of Mediterranean mosaic traditions combined with refined mid-century ironwork.
An incredibly rare complete, matching suite of terrazzo-topped tables on sculptural wrought-iron bases, offering strong architectural presence and timeless continental character.
The rectangular coffee table features a lighter-toned mosaic field, providing visual contrast and balance within the suite, while retaining the same hand-laid technique, tessera scale, decorative border pattern, and ironwork throughout. This subtle variation is entirely consistent with mid-century continental workshop practice and enhances the overall decorative effect when arranged together.
In mid-century continental suites like this:
• Larger “anchor” pieces (coffee tables) were often made lighter to visually open a room
• Smaller tables were made warmer or darker for contrast and practicality
• Workshops regularly produced coordinated but not identical colourways within one suite
The border motif, tessera size, laying technique, ironwork, and construction all match perfectly.
Usually these pieces come up individually so to have the complete suite is incredibly rare.
This set comprises:
• A rectangular coffee table - 130cm wide x 68cm deep x 49cm high - white / pale cream, with very fine light tesserae forming the main field.
• A square lamp / side table - 67cm square x 53cm high - tones - ochres, tans, honey and stone colours
• A nest of three occasional tables - 57cm wide x 31cm deep x 56cm high (largest), 49cm wide x 31 cm deep x 43cm (smallest) - ochres, tans, honey and stone colours
The terrazzo tops feature a refined, mosaic-like composition framed by decorative borders, while the iron bases introduce elegant curves and structural rhythm. The result is a suite that feels both grounded and light, decorative yet functional.
Sheet-metal tray construction
• The flat steel sheet panels screwed into the underside are exactly what is expected for:
• Continental mosaic tables
• c. 1930s–1950s
• This method was used to:
• Support the weight of the mosaic
• Allow workshop-standardised production
• Keep the profile slim
This is not modern MDF, ply, or resin backing.
Perfectly suited to:
• Design-led living spaces
• Conservatories and garden rooms
• Boutique hotels, studios, or high-end Airbnb interiors
• Mediterranean, Moorish, modern eclectic, or wabi-sabi schemes
This is not mass-market furniture. It is a cohesive interior statement — the kind of set normally sourced through an interior designer or architectural salvage dealer.
