Description
Beautiful antique steamer trunk crafted from wood, leather and canvas. It comes from a period where people would travel for months: a trunk like this would have been hauled on and off ships, then stood upright as a functioning wardrobe for the duration of the trip.
Height: 42 inches
Depth: 36 inches
Width: 54.5 inches
This is a massive trunk- it would work best in a room with high ceilings. Having said that, if you want to invest time fitting new drawers (only one remains), it could be a really sweet compact wardrobe.
This item is for collection only and please do check the measurements because it is really big!
The trunk's design reflects the period- c. 1895- early 1900s with its sturdy construction and thoughtful design. I’ve been using it for winter storage and it holds A LOT.
As you would expect for a piece of furniture of this age, it has various scuffs and dings. I’m not even going to try and take a picture of ever one of them but it is generally a lovely shape externally. The main thing showing its age is the fraying rope handle which could be removed or re-wrapped. It still has all four wheels on the bottom and functioning clasp hardware and other hardware. The inner fabric of the trunk has become foxed over time with staining; if you want to use it as a wardrobe you could re-line if it bothered you.
I have loved using this it would fit beautifully in any room, but I need the space due to building work. Please only contact me if you can collect it quickly as this is the reason for the low price…
You will definitely need a van for collection.
