Description

Support Worker / 1:1 Specialist Carer – Sutton Coldfield (B74)

Role: Specialist 1:1 Support Worker

Location: Sutton Coldfield, B74

Hours: 30-40 hrs/week (includes day shifts, ~2 weekends/month, some on-call nights)

Start Date: ASAP (but the candidate who is the right fit will be worth the wait)

About the Role

We are seeking a warm, reliable, creative, and patient individual who truly understands what it means to work one-to-one in someone’s home. You’ll be directly supporting Sam, an 18-year-old young man with Cerebral Palsy (acquired brain injury), learning needs, visual impairment, and well-managed epilepsy.

You will:

Provide hands-on support with personal care, transfers, mobility, gym work, etc.

Help with daily tasks, routines, and transitions — knowing that consistency, trust and emotional intelligence are key.

Be proactive: planning and engaging in social, recreational, and physical activities (gym, swimming, arts & crafts, outings).

Use creative behaviour management strategies (distraction, diversion) and bring humour into your support.

Work with Sam in his own home, becoming part of his family’s life, offering stability, encouragement and genuine companionship.

Requirements

Experience supporting people with physical disabilities (ideally Cerebral Palsy) or acquired brain injury is highly desirable, though enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude are also very welcome.

Comfortable with 1:1 work in a home setting — this means being adaptable, building trust, respecting boundaries, and maintaining professionalism.

Emotional intelligence, patience, creativity, a sense of humour, and ability to manage transitions and occasional challenging behaviour.

Must be confident taking Sam swimming.

Driver’s licence essential — use of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle while on duty.

What’s Provided & Salary

Pay: Up to £19.00/hr gross, weekday base rates slightly lower depending on experience; on‐call nights at £13.50/hr.

Accommodation: Private bedroom & bathroom overnight when on duty.

Rota: Scheduled 3 months in advance. When working weekends, you’ll be offered consecutive days off during the week.

Full training & a welcoming, supportive team.

About Sam

Sam is bright, intuitive, with an infectious sense of humour. He loves music (“Proud Mary” is a current favourite), going out dancing, exploring outdoors, and trying new experiences. He benefits most from carers who can provide consistency, respect and warmth.

This is ideal for someone who:

Sees this not just as a job, but a chance to make a real difference in someone’s daily life.

Is confident, caring and creative.

Wants a role that is rewarding, varied, challenging and fun.

If you are looking for a role where you’ll be valued, where your compassion matters, and where you can support someone to reach new milestones every day, we’d love to hear from you.
