Observations and general details for information

This is a ‘30 year old, Classic Mini' which has been 'off the road' for some time and is offered here as shown in the images and described in text as an ongoing 'RESTORATION PROJECT' or for spares or repairs.

The 35th Anniversary is a limited edition based on the Mini Sprite of which only 1000 were produced for the home market, available in Arizona Blue, Nevada Red or Diamond White. The model was built with standard steel wheels, 1275cc engine, chrome grill and door handles. It was commissioned to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the launch of the Mini and followed on from the 25th and 30th Anniversary models

Registered in my name on the V5c, currently on SORN. The car has its original stamped VIN number clearly visible on the gutter beneath the scuttle and has its VIN plate attached to the OS inner wing.

The vehicle will always be relatively rare as part of the Mini heritage and will be well worth the time taken to restore to its former condition. Significantly, the car was used regularly by its enthusiast previous owner to attend ‘national Mini meets’ and completed the ‘London to Brighton’ run on a number of occasions.

According to the previous owner who acquired the car in 2012, the engine has a 12G940 mg metro cylinder head, Torque Master inlet manifold, Maniflow exhaust manifold, RC40 exhaust and a HIFF44 carb. It has previously been set-up on a dynomometer by an engine tuning specialist and was data-logged at 72hp.

After connecting a temporary fuel supply, fresh fuel and engine oil - the car now starts on the key and runs sweetly

The gearbox and clutch are working correctly, gears select nicely and the clutch is judder free - I have driven it around the yard.

In terms of previous restoration, having been removed from the road some years ago by its former Mini enthusiast owner, for a cosmetic restoration, a start had been made to restore this Mini. It has been partially dismantled and has been ‘flatted down’, with potential rust spots treated and some preparation completed ready for paint. Images of the car in white were taken on arrival here, those showing grey panels are the most recent images - as I have stripped back to bare metal and etch primed.

The floors were covered in original bitumen sound deadening material, this has now been removed to reveal original beige primed floors in good condition with no evidence of previous welding repairs. Some welding is however required, in the front corners, inner/outer sills but overall the bodyshell is in very sound condition. Significantly it does not appear to have had previous repairs to the floor. In my opinion this does not require extensive panelwork but will of course be dependent on the depth of restoration to be undertaken.

As can happen, ‘life then got in the way’ of the restoration and the car has been left for a number of years, in dry storage awaiting completion.

The car is offered as a ‘rolling shell’ with drivetrain, steering and engine fitted. It rolls, drives and steers freely for loading and movement. All the major components are included, including the wiring loom, doors, all glass and an excellent set of seats.

Further work is now clearly required to make speedy progress on this car but as this has not been started, a ‘new owner’ can undertake the refurbishment to their own desired standard, timescale and budget.

The vehicle is offered with all ITS FAULTS VISIBLE, as a restoration project or for parts - you must decide whether its right for you, please consider this carefully before making any contact or making any commitment to view. This is quite clearly NOT a nicely painted or prepared car, experience suggests that whilst 'Minis' previously 'restored' with glossy paintwork may look very nice - they can often conceal a multitude of issues - how many times have you read in listings 'a bit of bubbling in the paint' in reality, corrosion beneath the glossy paintwork - to rectify, that glossy paintwork will most certainly be compromised!

With a sympathetic 'new owner' this Mini 35th will make a decent everyday or occasional user, it represents (in my opinion) good value and allows plenty of scope to finish to a standard appropriate to the available budget. You decide.

Ideal as an 'Autumn Winter project' for a Mini enthusiast or 'Son/Daughter/Dad' restoration.

Front and rear subframes are complete and appear in decent condition

Four 12 inch steel Mini wheels with inflated tyres suitable for loading
The 'Minilite' style alloy wheel shown on OS front in some images is NOT included - this will be replaced by a standard steel rim.
Front drive shafts are present.
Front disc brakes with calipers
Brake master cylinder, Brake Servo and Clutch master cylinder all present (untested)
5mm wheel spacers on front wheels
Suspension components and hubs are all present
Radiator and mounting frame present and fitted
Wiper motor and rack are present and fitted (untested)
Switchgear as shown all untested
Panel joint covers included
Clutch mechanism is complete but untested
Battery cable to boot battery tray present
Three matching material seats as shown
A pair of rear panel inner cards (for OS & NS) and one door card matching the seats
