A rock solid Midget that’s had more than the asking price invested on it in the last 5 years, there are loads of MG’s for sale, some at silly money, some needing hours of work and occasionally a well priced, drive away, usable gem like this one pops up, someone else has already spent all the money so it’s not to be missed, read on…..

1976 MG Midget in very good all-round condition with a super solid underside, running and driving absolutely spot on, it’s a really good looker with its Minilite alloys, smooth sporty lines helped by the optional hood down cover, a roll over bar, sporty exhaust back box with a great burble and the very best colour combination for a proper British sports car.

The 1491cc engine was professionally reconditioned in 2023 with the cylinder head adapted for unleaded fuel, pics of the work in the file, it starts very easily and runs well, pulling strongly through all the gears, it stops very well and is steady at speed with no wandering or vagueness of any kind the steering wheel is rock steady and if you press the “go” pedal hard it’s quick at getting up to the speed limit, its sitting on set of nearly new tyres on unmarked alloys.

Under the bonnet is well presented and tidy, showing signs of the recent investment and regular service, unleaded fuel head conversions, upgraded electronic ignition, stainless steel exhaust, oil cooler, electric fuel pump, recent new battery, radiator and thermostat, new hoses and clips, the list goes on, the current owner has invested a huge £5900 on the car during his ownership over the last five years. We have checked all the fluids for correct level and contamination. The odometer is showing 21804 miles, assumed 121804, but we can’t confirm.

The interior is tidy, wood finish dash panels and gear knob, everything is intact, no damage to the dash, all the switches, dial’s, clock and gauge’s work correctly, smart steering wheel and very presentable dashboard with a couple of working extra clocks, seat belts fitted, very recent carpet set, it’s a sung place to get comfy for some motoring adventures. A full set of brand new seat covers are included, still boxed awaiting fitting.

Both doors, boot and bonnet open, click shut and lock, the windows wind down, the quarter light vents twist, the side lights, head lights, fog light, horn, heater fan, wiper, washers, all work. The hood is virtually brand new, free from any rips, splits or damage and fits snugly, fastening on every pop button, the windows are very clear with no cracks as expected, the hood frame is in very good order, the hood down cover again fits snugly on every fastener.

The paintwork is presentable as can be seen in the pictures, there are imperfections that will be found on close inspection on just about every panel, it’s not immaculate and would benefit from some localised tidying in places, that said you could simply enjoy it as or get busy with a sander and some rattle cans over the winter, bright work is all ok, not new and slightly aged, whilst we are critical of the body finish it does all appear solid and the far more important mechanicals and underside are sweet, so its an easy use & improve opportunity, or just use and enjoy.

It’s completely solid underneath, the sill’s, floor pans, jacking points, chassis legs are all solid underside showing a couple of small historic repairs with nothing required to be attended to, we have had it 6ft in the air, see the pics and video for a full underside tour, any inspection welcome.

We have the full current logbook registered 20th Feb 1976, current owner since 2020 and 9 in total, there are masses of invoices from the current ownership detailing huge amounts of mechanical upgrades and refurbishment, its HPI clear and the car is TAX and MOT exempt but will be sold with a new MOT regardless.

Draw out of your boring ISA, get out the picnic hamper and go and enjoy your hard earned savings, you still have a car to sell if you want to cash in later and you will be making memories instead of a pittance of interest.
