c. 1850 Large Pair Italian Delft Faience Apothecary Pharmacy Albarello Drug Jars
Brief Description:
This is a fabulous matching pair of Italian Delft Albarello Apothecary Drug Jars from the 19th century.
Each beautifully decorated piece has a vibrant floral shield in blues and greens.
One jar is inscribed 'UNG POPUL' - a populus ointment or Balm of Gilread, used to treat burns, cuts, and wounds.
The second jar is inscribed 'PULPA CASSIE' - a currently unidentified substance.
The jars have a wonderful opaque surface in most areas.
Indeed, they are a treasure to behold and relatively rare to find in such good condition.
