Description

Thanks for looking at my amazing and quirky van!

Westfalia Florida VW LT28. 1995. 203,000Kms (approx. 125,000 miles). 2.4l diesel (non-turbo) engine. 5 speed manual gearbox. Power steering. Extremely reliable and runs very well. Just over 5m long so fits in a standard parking space. 3-point seatbelts for 6 people.’

In the back there are 2 rows of 2 seats, with seat belts. This turns into a briliant living area. The front 2 seats turn around so that the seats face each other and a table goes in the middle. The kitchen is towards the back of the van and there is a separate wc / shower room (cassette toilet included).

LPG system serving two ring hob, 3-way fridge, and hot water system. Fresh water tank under rear bench and external waste water tank.

At night, the sleeping area folds down into a double bed. Up top, another bed folds out which is very wide and big enought to sleep 3 kids.

Electric hook up and two leisure batteries. Loads of storage. Night heater, double glazing and well insulated. Roof mounted solar panel provides top-up to leisure battery. Original roof rack and ladder with large fiamma roof box.,

It also comes with a Fiamma bike rack and a Hyam awning. The awning is 3x3 metres, so provides a brilliant extra living space, and also has another sleep area, which is great for slightly older kids.

MOT for 12 months. I have had it for 12 years and it has been really reliable. It was imported to the UK from Germany at that time and reregistered. I am not very good at logging what repairs have been done to it or keeping receipts, I'm afraid. I did though have it completely resprayed 2 years ago, at which time all rust issues were dealt with. My take on the van is that the engine should keep going for a long time if taken care of. The respraying should keep the bodywork good for years to come. I have always bargained on having a budget for ongoing repairs every year and I have found the cost to be reasonable.

For me, this is a perfect layout in a small van. The extra size, height, and additional row of seats means there is less faff in setting up. It has a lot of character, is really fun to drive and has a great layout for camping. I had never previously driven a lh drive in the UK but have found it to be no problem.

Not so good bits....

The tap on the sink is broken. I have not got round to properly cleaning out the fresh water tank for a few years. The passenger door window is not working - a part needs to be tracked down to fix it. I have not checked the hot water for a few years so can't vouch for that. There are some idiosyncratic features - for example, getting the fridge lit on the gas mode is an art rather than a science, but I have always seen those kind of things as the pay off for having an unusual and fun camper.

I have looked at the prices that the same type van has been advertised for recently and have gone lower. I would like someone to get who loves it and will get use out of it.

Located in Edinburgh. Thanks for looking.
