Description

This VW Transporter Kombi T32 (Short Wheel Base) is a highly versatile van and a fantastic base for adventures or everyday use. I bought this in 2016 and it has had various upgrades to make it a semi converted camper van (including a pop top, bed, LPG heater with tank, Lithium leisure battery, drive away awning etc - see list below). The current configuration is 2 + 2, but the bed can come out, and easily replaced with a rear bench (the fixing points and seat belts are there) to make it a 7 seater (or up to 9 seats with the addition of more fixing points!). The van has been to many places across Europe and has never let me down. I even used it to tow my caravan to Spain through France this August - It drove perfectly, and the cruise control made motorway driving so easy!

The van is mechanically sound and drives very well. Regularly serviced, with the most recent service in July 2025. MOT due in November 2025. Timing belt and water pump were last replaced in February 2020, but the van has only done 20k miles since. Brake discs and pads were replaced in 2024. The exhaust rear box and tail pipe replaced in 2025. The clutch and flywheel were replaced in 2019 with a Sachs upgrade. In 2020, I noticed there was some pressure build up in the water tank. This was caused by the cylinder head becoming porous. My garage replaced the cylinder head (including the gasket) which was costly but I've had no issues since.

Condition:

There is some cosmetic wear consistent with age (please see pics). The bodywork is fair with some scratches and there is some surface rust in places. The paint on the bumpers has peeled in places. There is a dent to the rear wing which has been there since I bought it.

The van does have Air Con but this is not working. I did try to have an Air Con recharge in August, but this failed and cited a compressor issue.

The only known mechanical issue is that now and again the starter motor makes a noise and doesn't engage. - It's as if the starter motor can be slightly misaligned with the flywheel. If you give the van a little wobble this cures the problem. This problem is rare and happens around once or twice a year.

Specific features and additions:

Pop top with elevating roof bed and LED spotlights (fitted by Platinum Skyline Wales in 2018). In very good condition, a couple of tears which have been repaired using gorilla tape.

The combined cost of these additions has been over £8k during my ownership!

Some minor niggles:

One of the pop top struts has failed. I have the new strut to replace the broken one.
A few rust streaks on the paint work which should come away with a polish.
There's a bit of mould stains on the rear seatbelts which won't come away.
One of the tyres has a very slow puncture (needs pumping up every month or so!)
A little smoky on start up.
