Description
Here is my '98 VW T4 2.5 TDI (Bandit) that we have owned for the last 3 years.
FULL SERVICE HISTORY - Try and find that with any other T4
226k miles with regular servicing in the time that I've owned it (mileage will increase as still being used)
MOT until April 2026
Full service done at 221k
Timing belt done at 217k by Doghouse T4
Cam shaft and lifters replaced at 217k by Doghouse
T4
Oil cooler seals replaced
New crankshaft pulley at 222k
Full manual gearbox and flywheel conversion completed in April 2025 by Doghouse T4
Water temp sensor replaced
New front passenger sill
All 4 tyres have excellent tread
Remote central locking (aftermarket)
The van drives very well especially now after its conversion from auto to manual and returns a generous MPG figure - I would estimate around 40-50MPG. Our recent trip to Haverfordwest for the weekend and back used just over 1/4 of a tank (around 250 miles in total)
I’ve been using the van regularly over the last 3 years, alternating between this and my car for commuting to work, week long holidays, camping trips and weekends away and has never let me down.

Bad bits
The rear arches are starting to show some surface rust so could benefit with a rub down and treatment before painting again, with the slider door side showing a little more bubbling of the paintwork - my guess is that this will need welding in the next couple of years.
The lacquer has started to flake on a few of the alloys, but wouldn’t take much work to get them looking pristine again.
The remote locking is temperamental on the sliding and passenger door sometimes so I think a new cable just needs to be wired between the master solenoid in the driver’s door to the slave solenoids as they’re using the factory wiring to piggyback (the keys open all doors though).
Also included in the sale
Windscreen blind kit (T4 specific)
Windscreen insulation cover
OLPRO awning rail kit (cut to fit for T4)
JustKampers awning draft excluder (for T4/T5/T6)
Mains inverter (1000W or 10000W, I forget which)
Eberspacher D2 Airtronic diesel heater with control (pump and diesel feed are already fitted, just needs wiring and placement in van)
JustKampers Blue retro awning with sleeping compartment (awning and poles included)
NOCO genius 5 smart battery charger (to charge leisure battery while on 240v hookup)
New ABC fire extinguisher
Ground sheet for awning
(And probably more)
Please bear in mind, this is a near 30 year old van so condition wise it's not going to look like it's just rolled off of the showroom floor. I've invested a lot of time and money over the past 3 years with the van getting it to a point that we can comfortably take it away on day-trips and long weekends with our children (who also love it and will be very sad to see it go) that's it's rather bittersweet to be saying goodbye. It's completely ready and ready for the next owner to also look after it as well as we have.
