Being offered for sale here is a comedic anthology from the world renowned English weekly publication Punch.

Given this book is an original English vintage first edition, and not a modern facsimile, it is highly collectable.

This is a private sale from a pet and smoke free home. The book has been in the possession of the current owner’s family since it was originally purchased shortly after publication and as such is a rare find these days.

This amusing nostalgic book is evocative of a bygone era yet its frivolity remains very entertaining. Its 192 pages include numerous cartoons and articles, as well as some photographs. The illustrations are mostly in black and white but some are in colour. The last two pages index all the artists and writers who contributed, edited by Bernard Hollowood.

The book’s contents include: The Facts As We Know Them, At Grips With Living, All Rather Un-British, Democratic Discipline, Imagination’s Artful Aid, Mostly Cultural, Men, Women and Children, It Happened That Week, Sporting And Rural, and much more.

This book was published in English by Arthur Barker Limited of 20 New Bond Street, London in 1962 and printed by The Bradbury Agnew Press.

The size of this hard covered portrait format book is approximately 222 mm wide by 284 mm high.

Although this book has been read it is in a very good clean condition and is a nice edition, having only been lightly used. All its pages and spine are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting or prior owner inscriptions. There are no loose or missing pages, nor are there any rips or tears or stains to the inside pages. There are tiny marks on some pages, commensurate with their age, and a few pages show light creasing on the right hand side – which is to be expected as this item has been read and preloved. The pages and illustrations are still bright and clear.

The paper dust cover is no longer present. However, the book’s hard black binding is in good condition given its age, showing only a few light marks upon close inspection. The outer edges of the book’s binding are a little bent from having been stored on a shelf for many years. The gold lettering on the spine has aged slightly but is still clear.
