Description
A rare copy of this classic and very collectable 1897 book on 19th century German hunting practices and personalities, with wonderfully expressive pencil portraits and sketches by C. W Allers and Ludwig Ganghofer.
The book contains 45 full-page portraits (a small selection shown here) and many more smaller
ones. The 12 watercolour portraits - one for each month - are unfortunately missing; obviously removed by a previous owner to be individually framed and displayed.
The book measures 39.2cm x 29.5cm and weighs an impressive 2.8kg!! For its age the book is in remarkably good condition
I have owned - and taken great care of - this copy since 1962, at the start of my Honours degree in German at Manchester University.
A search on eBay came up with only one copy in Germany (in poorer condition), with an asking price of 175 Euros, plus 28 Euros for posting to the UK.
