Description

Dan Dare Pilot Of The Future – Rogue Planet Sixth Deluxe Collector’s Edition 1992 First Edition. Large Heavyweight Hardback Book.

This fantastic science fiction adventure annual is a 1992 Deluxe Collector’s First Edition containing attractive fine facsimile reprints which were originally published in the “Eagle” comic between December 1955 and February 1957.

It was described as: “another complete facsimile of an early Dan Dare adventure” by its publishers. The renowned artist who produced the illustrations was Frank Hampson. This edition was compiled by Mike Higgs and published in English by Hawk Books Limited, London in 1992. It was printed in Great Britain by Bath Press Colourbooks, Glasgow.

“Rogue Planet” is a continuation of the Dan Dare adventure presented in Vol. 5 of the Dan Dare collector’s series (“The Man from Nowhere”). Dan and co. have travelled light years from Earth to the planet Cryptos in order to aid the peaceful Crypts in overcoming their war-like oppressors, the Phants. These strips originally appeared in “Eagle” Vol. 6 No. 8 to Vol. 8 No. 7, which were published between 1955 and February 1957. The story is filled with weird and wonderful characters such as Gogol, the High Phant and the dreaded Kruels, warrior priests of the mysterious machine-god, Orak. The artwork shows Frank Hampson at his best and this story is part of the long high point of the Dan Dare saga.

At the back there is a special bonus eight page Dan Dare adventure reprinted from the Eagle Annual Number Six.

This large heavyweight book is a very nice copy in particularly good condition. It has never been read and only recently been opened – in order to check its condition and take the photographs accompanying this advertisement. It has been well looked after and stored in a clean, dry environment away from the light.

There are extensive full colour comic strip illustrations throughout this annual. It also has original title-blocked pictorial full colour glossy board covers and illustrated black and white end papers.

Its binding remains firm and tight and its spine is in very good condition. There are no loose or missing pages, nor are there any rips or tears to them. The covers and inside pages are all clean without any marks, stains or discolouration. The book is not marred by handwritten notes, or inscriptions, or highlighting, or colouring in. The text and coloured illustrations are still bright and clear.

This first edition was published without a dust jacket. There are a few small indentations on the back cover, from having been in storage. There is also a small faint superficial V shaped scratch on the front cover.

Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the overall condition of this book.

The size of this portrait format book is approximately 26.8 cm wide by 35.7 cm high, by 1.8 cm deep.
