ESPONIAD AR EFENGYL MATTHEW 1907. D.M. PHILLIPS
This very rare antiquarian book of commentaries on the gospel of Matthew by D. M. Phillips M.A. PhD.
Published in 1907 by Evans & Williams, Caerdydd, in the Welsh language.
Hard cover, 480 pages, appx. 190mm x 130mm x 40mm. Well bound, with some wear on the corners on the cover. A little fading around the edges of pages, which is confined to the margins. Some foxing which is confined to the front and rear flyleaves. Part of the spine hinge is worn, please see photo.
Inside front cover inscribed Evan Evans, Nantyronen, Llanilar. Ionawr 1902 – the original owner of the book, which has been passed down through the family.
While this is an honest description of the book, the book is in good is in good/very good condition considering its age. The pages are in very good condition and intact, and is very collectable.
Author Daniel Mydrim Phillips (1863-1944), was born in Carmarthenshire. Began preaching in Aberdare, ordained in Maesteg, Paster in Tylorstown.
He lectured philosophy, logic, theology, ethics and natural science.
He was a prolific writer and editor of Christian books and biographies and commentaries, writing about 20 volumes in total, 17 in Welsh, 3 in English including Evan Roberts the Great Revivalist.
D.M. Phillips was a significant figure of his time.
