Description
'Marna B'
Interior images all in the video linked. :)
This is a well-kept boat with a recent survey – Dec 2023. This boat has 6'6” headroom inside – unheard of on a narrowboat. Great paint, quality signwriting on the outside and a big stained glass cratch. Light and airy and set up properly for continuous cruising. I've been slowly doing her up for myself to live in permanently but my plans have changed and I'm moving on from London. In the time I've owned her I've cruised her from just below Liverpool into Oxford, back up the Ashby and then down the Grand Union into London. This boat was originally built for a private owner and the design choices have all been made with continuous cruising in mind.
I adore this boat, I'll be very sad to part with her, but I'm moving back to Scotland and can't take her with me.
Well-deck & Exterior
From the front of the boat you have the well-deck with a large stained glass cratch over the top. There is a large watertank in the bow underneath the well-deck and two 13kg Gas bottles in the gas locker. There is a large storage-step aswell for whatever things need stored.
The exterior of the boat has had the roof-paint updated and the gunnels freshened up. There's lots of touch-up paint leftover coming with the boat. :)
The tunnel light has been updated to a bright modern LED version and the horn updated at the same time.
Freshly painted roof and gunnels – June 2025

New centrelines – January 2024

Interior
Stepping into the boat from the front you step directly into the living area with 6'6” Headroom!
There are 4 usb sockets and a voltage monitor for monitoring the batteries cut into the step.
The interior is painted panels with oak edging held in place with brass fixings. The heating is by way of a multifuel stove, this has just had new glass and heats the boat well. The boat is insulated with 2” of insulation all round so it retains heat well. The main living area is open-plan so can be configured however you see fit. I've got an oak writing bureau as a laptop desk for doing work from home. The lid of this folds away when not in use. I've also got a small sofa for lounging and entertaining guests. I've already moved out the majority of my belongings so the current furniture will be sold with the boat. There are magnetic "one way glass" plastic panels which I always keep on the towpath side of the boat to stop people peering in. There are new William Morris curtains and polished brass rails holding the curtains into the walls.
Prior to my ownership this boat has toured most of the canal network as can be witnessed by the large amount of plaques up on the living room wall.
New glass in multi-fuel stove – March 2025
New curtains – June 2025
Kitchen
Walking through the boat you get to the U-shaped kitchen which is partitioned off from the main living area. There is a gas cooker, a sink and draining board, worksurface and a space for a fridge freezer. The fridge-freezer has just broken and I won't be replacing it before selling the boat as I'm sure the next owner will have preferences on what to get.
Unusually for a narrowboat there is an aqualine water filtration system, this filters the water from the tank – this is the reason for the additional tap at the sink.
Above the worksurface there is a Paloma Instant water heater – this runs on gas and means that there is instant hot water in the boat without having to run the engine.
Toilet
Walking into the bathroom there is the pump-out toilet. The toilet has an enormous tank. I'd estimate it to be about 1000L – I get a solid 6 months between pumpouts. This is huge for a narrowboat and means that the irregular availability of pumpout facilities on the canals really doesn't affect this boat.
There is a sink and a shower in the bathroom. This shower comes from the Paloma water heater, so piping hot showers are available whenever.
Build
The boat is flat-bottomed and was built as an 8/6/4 thicknesses – there is minimal wastage as can be seen on the survey.
There is a section of replated baseplate at the rear of the boat which was undertaken prior to my ownership..
The BSS is valid to 2027.
Strong engine – have cruised from Northwich (just below liverpool) to Oxford to London in the time that I've owned her.
The engine has been regularly maintained – oil changed, new filters etc.
I added a new starter motor in December 2024.
The diesel-tank is 150l and has just been filled to the brim for the next owner.
The boat had a new auto bilge-pump fitted in the bilge underneat the engine in January 2024.
The blacking is now due! it was done by the prior owner 9 months before I bought the boat so will be around 2.5 years old now.
Power
There is 850w Solar on the roof. No expense spared in this – all victron controllers for solar. This produces more power than I can use all year round. There is a 800W inverter to supply 240v power around the boat. 6 x 240V sockets down the length of the boat. These also have USB sockets mounted in them, bringing the total number of 12v USBs in the boat to 8
There is a shore power hookup if the boat is to be moored at a Marina, this has a galvanic isolator fitted.
Lithium Iron battery system – NEW december 2024. This is set up with a proper battery management system and has been seperated from the Alternator via a battery to battery charging system. This
Low power usage – 12v LED lighting throughout. - December 2024
4x 12v USB sockets at the front of the boat – December 2024
100aH leisure battery. The wiring has been sized to accept two batteries if the next owner requires to bump up the capacity to 200aH. (Lithium Iron has double the usable capacity of lead-acid so acts as double the stated number for comparison with other boats)
The starter battery was replaced in December 2024 also.
