Description
2004 BMW R1150GS Adventure
Twin spark model, low mileage of 29129 miles. Bike rides well with no issues. MOT to April.
Bought in Spring 2022. I paid £5150 for it and have done less than 4000 miles in that time.
The previous owner had looked after the bike well. He’d done the “servoectomy”, a common mod where you remove the problematic ABS servo unit and return the bike to normal brakes. He described this as the best thing he’d ever done to the bike. He also removed the exhaust catalyser and fitted a Remus exhaust and y-piece, a common mod.
In my time, as well as the usual routine maintenance I’ve made several useful changes:
* OEM crashbars removed. They have a potentially dangerous design, so were replaced with Hepco & Beckers.
* The rather small OEM topbox was also replaced with a slightly larger Hepco & Becker Xceed allowing you to take the largest helmet.
* Feeble horn replaced with a loud twin Fiamm set.
* Optimate charging lead fitted.
* Cheap OEM plastic QR fuel disconnectors replaced with high quality CPC metal ones. These were expensive and had to come from the USA.
* Healtech Thunderbox fitted for powering accessories.
* Bikeviz Cree v3 running lights fitted, switchable on/off via redundant ABS button.
* Tomtom satnav cable fitted and a 1 inch RAM ball.
* Tank internals overhauled as a preventative measure - fuel pump, hoses and filter all replaced with new ones.
* Lower spark plugs replaced with stick coils (another common mod).
* MRA Vario screen fitted.
* Fuel injectors upgraded with R1200 ones.
* John Gemi chip recently fitted, supposedly improves power, response and fuel economy though I’ve not used the bike often enough to comment.
* Swingarm bearings replaced, final drive pivot bearings upgraded to Motorworks version. These can be greased through detachable nipples.
* Swingarm and brake torque arm powder-coated at the same time.
* Forks overhauled with new seals and dust seals.
* New Conti Trail Attack 3 tyres fitted about 1200 miles ago.
* Front wheel bearings renewed.
* Front brake calipers overhauled a few weeks ago with new pistons, pads and seals.
Bike comes with topbox and side panniers. I’ve owned several other touring bikes, but this is my favourite luggage system. BMW’s pannier fitting system is easy to use, secure and discreet. The ignition keys opens the side panniers.
Bike has the usual centre stand, side stand, heated grips, hazard lights and a massive fuel tank.
A few small scuffs to the panniers, otherwise in good clean condition. Note this is a big bike suitable for tall riders only. I’m selling it to get something shorter and a little lighter. Would consider swap or p/x for a BMW F800GT or Ducati ST4s (not red).
Can be viewed in Saline, about 6 miles NW of Dunfermline, Fife.
Test rides available under usual conditions.
