Unique Separable Hybrid Tandem with Kiddy Crank in excellent condition

Description

Unique hand built hybrid tandem, separable for easy transport, including removable Kiddy Cranks. This tandem was built as a lockdown project, using high quality components, but has had very little use, and is therefore in excellent condition.

Specifications:

Frame: Hand brazed steel frame with custom machined couplings, which enable it to be easily separated into two equal halves, using one Allen key. Both halves can fit on a standard bicycle carrier or will fit in a large boot or estate car. The front frame size is 53cm and the rear 28cm. The head angle is 71 degrees and the trail is 50mm. There are braze-on bosses for brakes, cables, carriers and five bottle cages. There are two alternative mounting points for the stoker handlebars, giving a large range of adjustment. All fittings bolts are hex head stainless steel.

Wheels: These are hand built to be very strong, using Exal SP19 700C double wall/double eyelet rims with Shimano Tiagra hubs and stainless steel spokes with brass nipples. The spokes are Sapim Race double butted 14/15G front and rear non-drive side, Sapim Strong single butted 13/14G drive side rear. Tyres are Schwalbe Land Cruiser Plus 700x40 and mudguards are SKS Chromoplastic.

Drive: 48/28 chainring driving 11-32 8 speed cassette . The 48t chainring is centred to use all 8 speeds and the 28T is usable with the lower 6, giving a useful range of gears. Shimano indexed changers front and back. Cranks are Stronglight 165mm front and 160mm rear, on sealed bottom brackets. The timing chain is on the same side to enable quick removal on separating and to enable fitting of Kiddy cranks.

Brakes: Shimano Deore V Brakes front and rear plus Shimano Icetech centrelock 203mm disc rear, with Clarks CMD22 dual piston cable calliper. Handlebar levers operate V brake front and Disc rear. V brake rear is operated by stem mounted friction lever and can be used as a parking brake.

Kiddy Crank: This can be fitted in any position on the rear seat tube and requires removal of the rear left crank. The cranks are tapped at 110, 130 and 150mm to allow adjustment for any size child. The rear handlebar can be positioned further aft on the alternative mounting bracket.
