Description
I was going to use the frame myself but I've had to accept that my knees have gone and it has to be an electric bike from now on. It is a 24 inch frame.
I posted on a Facebook group to try and work out who made it. There was a lot of speculation. But I got a response from Dave Yates himself. He said "Alas, you are all wrong. I made this frame for Maddison in'84. Ordered 8/9/84, delivered 17/11/84. I made a few like this for them around the mid 80's, there was a model name they used for this style but I can't for the life of me remember it. The lugs are Prugnat 62d split down the spearpoint and curled. Not sure if it is 531 pro, I have no info on the tube as I only have the order book and not the order form". I can let anyone interested have a screenshot of the exchange if you send me your email.
The bottom bracket is stamped with the frame number. It is also stamped with "P Coe" and his post code. It's the kind of thing the police used to do in the 80s I think. I wrote to the address in Freckenham, Suffolk but got "gone away" as a reply. But again somebody on the Facebook group tracked down an entry in the London Gazette. Under deceased estates it says that Philip Coe, of that address, died 12 November 2015. Again, I can let you have a screenshot of the Gazette page if you are interested.
The frame has some paint missing, particularly around the underside of the bottom bracket but you will see from the photos that overall it is rust free and in really nice condition. I'm happy to answer any questions.
