Description:
Fluval 206:Fluval 206 External Filter System 780 LPH for aquariums up to 200 litres
New Increased Hydraulic performance means less frequent maintenanceNew Increased water filtration performance means cleaner water New Sound Dampening impeller design means quieter operation Re-engineered efficient priming system means easier starting Strengthened lift lock clamps means a more secure closure System new Media format means improved water Quality this Fluval 206 External Canister Filter is easily maintained and is suitable for fresh and salt water aquariums up to 200 litres. It is a multi-stage canister filter with Foam, Bio-Foam, and 3 media baskets – the Bio-Foam media creates additional space for beneficial bacteria to breed. The unique filter design separates each filtration stage for maximum versatility and minimal maintenance. The large capacity foam filters absorb more debris and reduce maintenance frequency whilst the separate baskets allow for easy and mess-free media removal. The powerful motor maintains a strong flow between scheduled maintenances and the noise-reducing impeller cover incorporates a precision-engineered bearing that minimises impeller vibration.
The Fluval 206 External Canister Filter features:
An Aquastop that stops the water flow without disconnecting hoses, thereby eliminating leaks and messesLift lock clamps to quickly secure the motor in placeQuick-change mechanical media – the foam cartridge is readily accessible for fast removalA re-engineered priming mechanism that makes starting the filter easy and quickPowerful motor – 780lphQuiet operationAll hoses and fittings suppliedSimple maintenanceDimensions: 29.5 x 19.5 x 37.5cm high
Maintenance and Lubrication of an Aquarium Canister FilterMaintaining and lubricating an aquarium canister filter involves the regular cleaning of the filter and lubrication of moving parts to ensure proper operation and prolong its lifespan. Cleaning typically includes rinsing the filter media with water from the aquarium itself to preserve beneficial bacteria, and lubricating parts such as the impeller and the canister lid seal, if recommended by the manufacturer, using aquarium-safe products.
Canister Filter Maintenance:
Turn off the filter:
Before starting any maintenance, unplug the filter from the mains and close the inlet and outlet valves, if present.
Disconnect the filter:
Carefully detach the filter from the aquarium, disconnecting the hoses and removing the unit from its base.
Clean the filter media:
Remove the filter media (sponges, ceramics, etc.) and rinse them in aquarium water to remove debris while preserving the beneficial bacteria. Never use tap water or cleaning products, as this may harm the biological filtration.
Clean the canister:
Remove excess dirt from inside the canister using a sponge or clean cloth and aquarium water.
Check the impeller:
The impeller is a moving part that requires cleaning and, in some cases, lubrication. Remove the impeller and clean it with a soft brush and aquarium water. If the manufacturer recommends it, lubricate the impeller shaft with a product specifically designed for aquariums.
Lubricate the seals:
If the canister lid has rubber seals, check that they are in good condition and lubricate them with a product recommended by the manufacturer, if necessary.
Reassemble the filter:
Reassemble the filter by reversing the disassembly steps, ensuring all parts are properly fitted and the seals are correctly in place.
Reconnect the filter:
Reconnect the filter to the aquarium, open the valves, and plug it back in.
Observe its operation:
After reassembly, observe the filter to ensure it is operating correctly and there are no leaks.
Maintenance Frequency:
The frequency of canister filter maintenance may vary depending on the size of the aquarium, organic load, and type of filter media used. It is recommended to clean the filter media every 1 to 3 months and to fully clean the canister every 6 to 12 months, or as needed, depending on the filter's performance. It is important to monitor water parameters (nitrite, nitrate) to assess the need for cleaning and to avoid imbalances in the aquarium.
Lubrication:
Lubricating the impeller and seals of the canister filter is important to ensure proper function and prevent premature wear. Refer to your filter’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding which parts should be lubricated and which products to use.
Note:
Avoid using cleaning products or soap when cleaning the filter, as they can contaminate the water and harm fish and plants. Only use aquarium water to clean the filter media and the canister.
