Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

We got this from a brocante at Vendeuil in the Aisne region intending to fit it but never put it up.
It’s an attractive four hook Faux Bamboo coat rack dating to around the 1920s.
Faux Bamboo, made to resemble bamboo, was particularly popular in France in the early 1900s when there was a trend for Chinoiserie.
I’m advised this is probably made from a Fruitwood and has been hand turned and varnished to resemble bamboo.
A robust and well made, nicely varnished, piece that has four secure mushroom hooks, it is now worn but still sound with a nice patina and makes a great functional and decorative piece.

In very good antique/vintage condition with wear consistent with its age and use but no damage - please examine photos carefully for condition.
Sound and sturdy.
I think the wood is fruitwood.
The surfaces have thick varnish.
No sign of woodworm holes.
The bobbin hooks are turned wood “mushroom” hooks and are still sound and secure.
I’m not exactly sure how they’re fitted but I think they are glued push fit rather than screwed, no screws are visible from the rear.
There are two staple type metal hanging brackets to the rear.
Note: There are splits at the point the brackets are fixed but they are secure. There are old holes and splits to the right of one of the brackets where I think one was originally fixed but the wood is sound - see photos.
The rear is worn but sound.
I can find no maker’s mark.

Approximate dimensions:
51.5 cm long maximum,
5.5 cm tall,
12.5 cm deep from wall,
5 cm hook diameter,
Weighs about 600 g.
