Napoleonic Era Military Type Travel Trunk Chest Hardwood 18th or 19th Century
Original provenance unknown however this has been ‘in the family’ for many years and is believed to be a genuine item from the Napoleonic era. It was valued at the asking price by a reputable auction house but of too low a value for their sales.
There are no signs of woodworm or rot and has been kept indoors as long as combined memory remembers.
It is in reasonable solid used condition with hinges and lock (no key) intact. There is an interesting stamp in the lock see detail image.
Parts of the front clasps are missing, one of the protective top corners and the decorative / protective edging has areas of wear and tear.

This wood has a lovely colour and I’m sure could be gently restored without losing the patina and character that suggests it’s history. Equally it can be used as is as a great storage box and talking piece!
