LARGE VINTAGE FRENCH ENAMEL NO SMOKING SIGN, RAILWAY/FACTORY NO NAKED FLAME SIGN, LABORDE VITREOUS ENAMEL - 70x50cm - 1940s MID CENTURY - REDUCED!

Acquired at a Brocante in Nauroy in the Aisne region, apparently this originates from a French Railway workshop, although internet research also indicates them to be displayed in factories.
Dating to around the 1940s it’s mid century in appearance and font with nicely patinated vitreous, or porcelain, enamel.
The red and black lettering is still clearly legible with the message:
DÉFENSE ABSOLUE DE FUMER ET DE PÉNÉTRER DANS CE LOCAL AVEC DU FEU OU UNE FLAMME QUELCONQUE
which roughly translates to:
ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING OR ENTERING THIS PREMISES WITH FIRE OR ANY FLAME
A little faded and worn but still clear and very sound with an attractive worn patina it makes a great French Railwayana or industrial mid century decorative piece.
In very good vintage condition with some rust and wear consistent with it’s age and use but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
In more or less as found condition having just had a wash.
The surface enamel is still bright but has some wear, scratches and rust - see photos
The enamel is thick and sound.
The the surface is really quite smooth, the rust isn’t serious and mostly to the edges as photographed, and the whole is very sound with no perforation from one side to the other.
The rear has wear but is in good condition.
Reasonably flat to a wall with just a little flex, the four fixing holes are still sound for mounting - see photos.
Marked to the bottom right with the maker/enameler: EMAIL LABORDE (LABORDE ENAMEL).
Measures approximately:
70x50 cm and about 1.5 cm deep.
Weighs about 3.9 kg.
