Description

Victorian “Primrose” cast iron fireplace.

Fully restored, stripped and polished with Liberon Iron Paste which has been buffed to give a graphite shine, but could be made matt black with another coat and no buffing.

We have repaired a clean break in the mantle shelf. It has been welded, and the weld strengthened with epoxy steel. See photos. The shelf unscrews and is removable for transport.

We have carved a firebrick to sit at the back, and stained it to match. This should be cemented in place once fitted.

Remains of a lozenge mark under the mantle shelf dating it to 1840s-1880s.

Some marks and wear consistent with age and use, but no obvious structural damage or signs of repair to the exterior other than the shelf. It is old and has had a life however, so it isn’t perfect. Overall condition is as shown in photos

There are two fixing loops under the mantle shelf to aid attachment in situ.
