Description
LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH COPPER SKIMMER, SPATULA, STRAINER, ÉCUMOIRE, HAND CRAFTED SINGLE PIECE HANGING TOOL, L50cm - 1800s FRENCH KITCHENALIA
REDUCED !
WILL POST - I can post this for £5 if paid for by bank transfer. (Note - we only accept payment in cash on collection or by bank transfer if delivery agreed - no PayPal, card, or courier payment).
Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!
Part of our French copper collection, we got this skimmer from an Antique dealer at Reims in the Champagne region.
Dating to the late 1800s, it’s a big, heavy, hand crafted copper skimmer/spatula/strainer (écumoire in French) that apparently came from a very large batterie de cuisine in a local kitchen.
Now worn but still very sound and crafted from a single piece of copper with a hooked handle, this is still useable today but also make a great decorative French Kitchenalia item.
In very good sound condition with some wear, knocks, staining, tarnishing and scratches but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
In more or less as found condition, this has just had a wash - I’m sure it would polish up well if so required.
The copper in good, bright, sound condition but has wear - see photos.
There are some small dents to the edges of the skimmer from use - see photos.
The handle is long and very strong with next to no flex to it.
Single piece with no joints.
Strong crafted hanging hook to the top.
I can find no maker’s mark.
Measure approximately:
50 cm long,
Skimmer 14x10 cm,
Handle 2 cm thick maximum,
weighs about 530 g.
