Description
Early Victorian Gothic/Neoclassical Revival Bureau Bookcase – c.1840s
A fine Early Victorian Bureau Bookcase of Gothic and Neoclassical Revival influence, dating to around the 1840s. Crafted in beautifully figured pine, this elegant and practical piece combines refined architectural design with functionality.
The upper glazed cabinet features twin doors with carved foliate detail and original glass, enclosing fitted shelving ideal for books or display. Below, the sloped fall-front writing surface opens to reveal a fitted interior for stationery or documents, resting above three full-width drawers offering generous storage.
This handsome example sits on turned front feet, while the rear feet are non-original replacements, as found by LVC Interiors, ensuring stability while maintaining historical integrity. The mellow patina throughout reflects its age and authenticity, making it a striking addition to any period interior, study, or living space.
