ANTIQUE FRENCH CAST IRON WAFFLE IRON, GAUFRIER, WAFFLE MAKER & HOT PLATE, 63cm long - 1900s FRENCH KITCHENALIA

Selling our collections (hoards) of mostly French vintage items that have been acquired over many years until finally we have no room for more!

Part of our French kitchenalia collection, this is one of several we got from a vide maison at Bar sur Aube in the Champagne region where it had been displayed hanging on a wall for many years.
It’s a cast iron waffle iron, or gaufrier, used for making waffles and wafers on a heat source.
It comes with what I’ve described as a hot plate type of bracket. My understanding is that the plate is stood over the heat source and the waffle iron placed in the bracket to cook on the heat (I’m no expert so I’m happy to be corrected on this!).
It’s well cast with a deep waffle imprint and dates to the early 1900s.
Used and now worn but still sound it makes a great decorative piece of French kitchenalia and would probably be functional, although we’ve never cooked with it.

In good antique condition with wear, surface rust and staining but no damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
It is a sturdy item with fine casting.
It has a black painted finish to the exterior which is now worn and stained with some surface rust but sound - see photos.
There is a little surface rusting to the interior but no significant corrosion.
The handle is secure.
It folds open well at the hinges.
The hot plate is in similar condition with surface rust and wear.
Both are marked with what I read as:
LT
2017 which are probably maker’s marks or a model number.

Measures approximately:
63 cm long,
24 cm across at it’s widest when open,
2.5cm deep maximum when closed,
28 cm plate diameter,
Weighs about 4 kg in total.
