Description
A Japanese concertina album of 25 original watercolour paintings, dating to the early 19th Century Edo period.
The 'Jiteki-jo' album - a collection of works by the same artist, is signed. It contains works featuring, birds, fish, crab, terrapin, insects, shellfish, flowers and trees.
Held within 2 damask green silk covers embroidered in gilt thread.
Dimensions: Height: 27.5 cm or 10 7/8 inches
Width: 18 cm or 7 1/8 inches
Weight: 275 grams.

There are three main groups of Japanese painting albums: Jjiteki-jo”, painting albums made by a single artist; “Gassaku-jo”, albums contributed to by different artists; and “Shuga-jo”, albums with paintings done by different artists and calligraphers brought together by a collector.
