The Payroll Administrator will provide vital business-as-usual (BAU) support to ensure the smooth operation of high-volume payrolls during a major system transition. The organization is currently preparing to migrate from iTrend to Oracle in April/May 2027. You will be responsible for processing multiple payroll runs and managing complex pension schemes.

Key Deliverables

Act as a key payroll focal point to support the team through a critical system migration from iTrent to Oracle.

Deliver consistent, high-volume BAU payroll processing for approximately 5,000 staff across 3 monthly payrolls.

Administer and coordinate complex pension schemes, specifically managing Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and Teachers' Pensions.

Resolve complex pay and pension queries in an efficient and timely manner to support employee wellbeing and engagement.

Manage the payroll workflow end-to-end, including processing new starters, leavers, structural changes, and contract variations.

Receive, verify, and input employee absence, sickness, and statutory payment records.

Process holiday requests, overtime claims, and manual payroll adjustments for payment processing.

Investigate and correct timesheet and payment errors, escalating system anomalies as required.

Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all personnel queries and payroll adjustments to ensure robust audit trails during the transition period.

Key Requirements / Qualifications

Education: Relevant payroll qualification (CIPP or equivalent) or demonstrated capability via extensive hands-on experience.

IT Skills: Solid IT skills across the MS Office Suite, including strong Excel and data analysis capabilities.

Experience: Previous experience managing high-volume payrolls within a complex, multi-payroll environment. Experience handling roughly 5,000 records across multiple monthly cycles is highly advantageous.

System Knowledge: Prior experience utilizing iTrent or Oracle payroll software is highly desirable, though not strictly non-negotiable.

Pension Knowledge: Demonstrable experience working with public sector pension schemes, specifically LGPS and Teachers' Pensions, is highly preferred.

Industry Knowledge: Previous experience working within a College, University, Local Council, or broader Public Sector environment is highly desirable.

Communication: Clear and confident communicator at all levels, capable of explaining complex payroll and pension queries face-to-face, via email, and over the telephone.
