Description

Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne – Hybrid working

6 months Contract initially

Up to £750/day

Our client is a government agency seeking a Head of Financial Reporting and Accounting to establish and lead the financial accounting and reporting processes for a new subsidiary.

This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the production of fully compliant annual reports and financial statements in line with all accounting standards and external requirements.

You will need:

* Strong technical accounting knowledge, including extensive experience with IFRS.

* Significant, demonstrable experience of the year-end accounts closure process, including group accounting.

* Proven experience managing a financial reporting team within a large or complex organisation.

* Advanced Excel and analytical skills with the ability to interrogate large datasets and distil complex information into clear briefings for senior audiences.

* Exceptional report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts simply and clearly.

* Excellent planning, communication, and organisational skills to manage team workload, meet tight deadlines, and engage multiple stakeholders.

* A recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, or CIMA) and membership of the relevant professional body.

* Experience or knowledge of government resource accounting requirements and budgeting would be an advantage or public sector experience.

The job role:

* Design and implement robust accounting and reporting processes and controls for the new subsidiary.

* Lead the work to create a separate finance ledger and group structure to facilitate consolidation.

* Provide expert guidance and training to other teams to ensure the availability of high-quality, accurate data for accounting and modelling.

* Liaise directly with the National Audit Office (NAO) to agree on audit timetables and share financial outputs.

* Collaborate with the Group Tax Manager to determine the applicable tax regime for the new entity.

* Provide strong leadership to build a new financial reporting function, defining clear roles and responsibilities.

* Direct the preparation of analysis, briefing notes, and technical papers to support the Finance Director in updates to the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
