Buying a used Kia
The things you need to know
Frequently Asked Questions
The most affordable used Kia models on Gumtree are usually older or smaller cars such as the Kia Picanto, Rio, Ceed, Venga and older Sedona models.
According to 2025 UK vehicle licensing data, there are around 1.3 million licensed Kia cars on UK roads.
A Kia Sportage is usually not expensive to maintain compared with many family SUVs, although costs depend on age, engine, mileage and service history. Buyers should check MOT records, tyres, brakes, clutch or gearbox condition and any hybrid-system maintenance where relevant.
The Kia Sportage, Niro and Ceed are commonly available automatic Kia models on Gumtree. Automatic versions are popular with buyers looking for easier city driving or hybrid and electric options.
The Kia EV6 and newer Kia EV9 are among Kia’s longest-range electric models. Official range varies by version, battery size and driving conditions, so buyers should check the exact model specification before buying.

How to find the best Kia deals on Gumtree
To find the best Kia deals on Gumtree, use filters to narrow your search by model, price, mileage, and location. Focus on popular models that offer strong value and availability. Check new listings frequently, as the best deals sell quickly, and look for private sellers who provide full details and maintenance history. Always verify the car’s MOT history and V5 registration document before committing.
Types of sellers you’ll find on Gumtree
Private sellers: Individuals selling their own Kia; usually cheaper with no dealer fees and room for negotiation, though they offer no warranty.
Dealers / Trade Sellers: Includes independent sellers and official Kia dealerships. Prices are typically higher, but they often provide extra protection, finance options, and added peace of mind.
Top things to check when buying a used Kia
Check the MOT History: Use the free UK Government MOT Check service to look for passes, failures, and recurring advisories.
Review the Service History: Ensure the car has a documented history of regular maintenance and oil changes.
Buy a Full Vehicle History Report: Use services like HPI to check if the car has been written off, stolen, or has outstanding finance.
Can I finance a used Kia?
Yes, you can finance a used Kia to spread the cost into monthly payments. On Gumtree, you can explore finance options directly from listings via CarMoney. This allows you to compare deals and check eligibility without affecting your credit score.
