Buying a used Honda
The things you need to know
Frequently Asked Questions
The Honda CR-V is usually one of the most relevant Honda options for towing, while larger older Honda models may also be suitable depending on version. Towing capacity varies by year, engine and specification, so buyers should check the exact vehicle details and towbar rating before purchasing.
The Honda CR-V has one of the highest listed luggage capacities among Honda passenger models on Gumtree, at around 590 litres. Buyers should compare exact versions because luggage capacity can vary by model year and seating layout.
The average price of a used Honda on Gumtree is around £8,000. Prices vary by model, age, mileage, fuel type and specification, with smaller models such as the Jazz and Civic usually priced lower than SUVs, hybrids or newer high-spec models.
The Honda CR-V and HR-V are among the most popular Honda SUV models on Gumtree. The HR-V is a compact SUV, while the CR-V offers more family space.
Older Honda Jazz, Civic, Accord and Insight models are usually among the lower-priced Honda options on Gumtree. Very low-priced listings may include older cars, damaged vehicles, non-runners or spares-and-repairs vehicles, so buyers should check MOT history, mileage, condition and service records.

How to find the best Honda deals on Gumtree
To find the best Honda deals on Gumtree, use filters to narrow your search by model, price, mileage, and location. Focus on popular models that offer strong value and availability. Check new listings frequently, as the best deals sell quickly, and look for private sellers who provide full details and maintenance history. Always verify the car’s MOT history and V5 registration document before committing.
Types of sellers you’ll find on Gumtree
Private sellers: Individuals selling their own Honda; usually cheaper with no dealer fees and room for negotiation, though they offer no warranty.
Dealers / Trade Sellers: Includes independent sellers and official Honda dealerships. Prices are typically higher, but they often provide extra protection, finance options, and added peace of mind.
Top things to check when buying a used Honda
Check the MOT History: Use the free UK Government MOT Check service to look for passes, failures, and recurring advisories.
Review the Service History: Ensure the car has a documented history of regular maintenance and oil changes.
Buy a Full Vehicle History Report: Use services like HPI to check if the car has been written off, stolen, or has outstanding finance.
Can I finance a used Honda?
Yes, you can finance a used Honda to spread the cost into monthly payments. On Gumtree, you can explore finance options directly from listings via CarMoney. This allows you to compare deals and check eligibility without affecting your credit score.
