BC on a BMW dashboard stands for "Board Computer," which controls the vehicle's trip computer and information display. It allows drivers to cycle through various data screens, such as average fuel consumption, remaining range, current speed, and service intervals. The BC button is typically located on the indicator stalk or steering wheel, depending on the model.

To use the BC function:

  1. Locate the BC button (often marked with "BC" or represented by a small screen icon).
  2. Press or toggle the button to cycle through the available displays.
  3. Common data includes fuel economy (mpg), distance to empty (miles), and outside temperature.

In newer BMWs, such as the 3 Series or X5, the BC function may be integrated into the iDrive system. The data helps drivers monitor efficiency and plan refuelling stops. For example, the remaining range display calculates how far you can travel based on current fuel levels and driving habits.

If the BC display isn't working, check the vehicle manual or reset the trip data via the instrument cluster. Some models require a long press of the BC button to reset certain metrics.

The BC button on the BMW dashboard is used to switch between information such as time, remaining fuel range, and mileage. This button confirms the selected display or set value.

After selecting the desired setting item using the small lever on the right side of the button, the BC key must be pressed to confirm the selection or enter the setting.

When pressing the "BC" button directly without using the small lever, each press will cycle through the average fuel consumption, average speed, and remaining fuel range displayed on the dashboard's digital screen. Except for the remaining fuel range, long-pressing the "BC" button will reset the displayed data for average fuel consumption and average speed, showing "——". Additionally, the displayed average fuel consumption and average speed may have an error margin of approximately +3% to 6%.

BMW is a German automobile brand under the BMW Group. The B.M.W on the logo stands for Bavarian Motor Works. The colors and design of the logo are derived from the coat of arms of Bavaria, where BMW is headquartered. The blue and white symmetrical pattern represents the state emblem of Bavaria, symbolizing the sky, white clouds, and a spinning propeller, reflecting BMW's long and storied history.
