Description
Project or Spares Repairs - non runner
This was advertised on eBay but developed an oil leak behind the upgraded oil filter housing. Below is what was written about it on eBay. It was subsequently removed from their and handed to me. I haven’t touched it since and I won’t be getting round to it either. It’s just taking up space so needs to go.
Yamaha TX500 1974 import with V5. Historic vehicle, tax and Mot exempt. Unfinished Project with Yamaha MT09 front end.
Unfortunately I have run out of time for this. As you can see it looks in good nick for a 1974 bike as I’ve cleaned it up over the past several years.
But please don’t be fooled, there is quite a bit of fettling to be done. I shall try and list it all, but there may be other little jobs here and there.
The front wheel needs spacers to sit right, this will also need the Speedo drive locating properly. The front wheel is an original TX, but twin front discs.
The front mudguard has not been fitted or measured up and is just sitting on the brackets for the photos. Again, a little bit of fettling will need to be done as the brackets are SW Motech ones, for the MT09 wheel which was a 17” and the TX runs a 19”
The front calipers may need the 10mm spacers I have to be able to clear the spokes, but then the discs will need upsizing. I have a few brake lines so they should be able to cover any movement.
There is no steering stops fitted. A couple of bolts through the bottom clamp in the right place should sort this.
There is wiring behind the headlamp that needs finishing (not for the faint hearted), including running an ignition switch in and an idiot cluster. Both of which I have and will come with the bike.
The throttle cable is a little sloppy at the switch gear and needs spacing out. The switch gear is from the TX500 but the carbs are from the XS500. The latter being only a single cable so they don’t share a common cable unfortunately. The front brake lamp switch also needs the wiring finishing off.
The tank will most likely need a flush, it’s been sat for a while.
This is collection from Inskip, near Preston.
Any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them.
