This is more than just a job; it's a chance to make a real difference in people's lives. You'll be at the forefront of providing crucial support to our diverse community, including some of our most vulnerable residents.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Benefits and Housing Needs Officer, you will be responsible for a wide range of essential services. Your main duties will include:

Financial Support: You'll process Housing Benefits and Council Tax Reduction payments to ensure residents receive the financial assistance they need to pay their rent and council tax. You'll also handle discretionary awards and payments.

Housing Solutions: You will work to prevent homelessness by providing comprehensive housing advice and support. This includes assessing homelessness applications and finding suitable temporary accommodation when necessary.

Community Building: You'll help manage the Council's Housing Register, handle lettings of social housing, and assist with initiatives to increase the supply of housing. You'll also conduct visits to customers and properties to carry out duties and assist vulnerable community members.

Expert Guidance: You'll need to have a detailed working knowledge of relevant legislation, including Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Housing, Welfare Reform, and more. You will also mentor new staff and help them with complex cases.Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a proactive and skilled individual with a strong commitment to public service. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and substantial experience in at least one of the following areas:

Homeless assessments and reviews

Homeless prevention and housing advice

Management of Temporary Accommodation

Housing Supply and procurement

Lettings, Allocations, and the Housing Register

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction schemes In addition, you should have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a knack for problem-solving. You must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be dedicated to providing high-quality customer care.
