Description

Job Title: Senior Environmental Health Officer – Environmental Protection

Location: West Sussex

Contract Type: Interim / Agency

Duration: Initial 6 months, with potential for extension

Start Date: ASAP

Rate: Competitive – dependent on experience

Overview:

West Sussex Based Council is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to join their Environmental Protection team. This interim opportunity is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in environmental protection and development control.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assess and respond to planning and development control applications, providing expert environmental health input.

* Investigate and resolve complaints related to statutory nuisance, air quality, contaminated land, and other environmental protection matters.

* Provide technical advice and support on noise, vibration, and acoustics issues.

* Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and members of the public to ensure effective service delivery.

* Prepare reports, statements, and documentation for enforcement action or legal proceedings when required.

* Contribute to policy development and service improvement initiatives within the Environmental Protection team.

Essential Requirements:

* Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent.

* Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control (or equivalent qualification).

* Extensive experience in environmental protection, particularly in handling development control applications.

* Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance.

* Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

* Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload effectively.

Desirable:

* Chartered status or working towards Chartered EHP.

Flexible working options available, including hybrid working. Part time for 3 days per week
