An exciting interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Estates Surveyor to join a dynamic London Local Authority. This is a key role within a high-performing Strategic Property team, managing a diverse commercial portfolio with a particular focus on schools and educational sites.

We are looking for a proactive, commercially minded surveyor who can hit the ground running and deliver results in a complex public-sector environment.

The Role

You will take full responsibility for a varied commercial property portfolio, including schools and education assets, ensuring effective management, compliance, and value generation.

Key responsibilities include:

* Managing leases, licences and deeds of variation

* Leading rent reviews, lease renewals and negotiations

* Ensuring statutory compliance and Health & Safety standards are met

* Working closely with Legal, Finance and Regeneration teams

* Building strong relationships with tenants and internal stakeholders

* Providing professional advice to senior officers and elected members

This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge alongside excellent stakeholder management skills.

About You

To be considered, you must have:

* MRICS qualification (Valuation or Commercial pathway)

* Significant experience within Local Government or a large public sector organisation

* Direct experience managing schools and/or educational property assets

* Strong understanding of commercial landlord & tenant matters

* Proven ability to negotiate and deliver practical solutions

* Confidence operating within a politically sensitive environment
