Description

Job Title: Multi-Skilled Handyman & Operations Technician

Company: Excel Resources

Location: Mobile / Site-Based – London & Surrounding Areas

Office Locations: Stratford (E20) & Royal Docks (E16), East London

Job Type: Self-Employed

Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence Required

We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Handyman & Operations Technician with a broad range of practical skills, a proactive attitude and the ability to confidently undertake a variety of tasks, from straightforward everyday jobs to more complex, specialist projects.

This is not a traditional handyman position where every day involves the same type of work. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety, can adapt to different challenges and takes genuine pride in delivering high-quality workmanship.

Your primary responsibilities will involve handyman services, furniture assembly, installations, repairs and maintenance.

However, between allocated handyman assignments, you will also be expected to support other areas of our business, including deliveries, property checks, portering, labouring and general operational duties.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, managing different tasks throughout the day and representing our company professionally at client locations.

Location & Working Arrangements

This is a mobile, site-based position, with work carried out at various client locations across London and the surrounding areas.

Our offices and operational bases are located in Stratford (E20) and Royal Docks (E16). However, the successful candidate will primarily travel directly between client sites, attending different locations depending on their daily assignments.

There may be occasions when you are required to attend one of our operational bases to collect equipment, materials or vehicles, assist with projects or support other business activities.

Flexibility, reliability and the ability to work independently are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Handyman, Assembly & Installation

Assembling and installing office furniture, desks, workstations, cabinets, shelving and storage systems.

Mounting televisions, monitors, whiteboards, shelving and other wall fixtures.

Building, modifying and repairing wooden crates, packing cases and bespoke timber structures.

Carrying out general office maintenance, repairs and improvements.

Undertaking property maintenance and minor repairs.

Installing fixtures, fittings, accessories and other equipment.

Completing basic carpentry, joinery and general maintenance tasks.

Dismantling, relocating and reassembling furniture and equipment.

Assisting with office setups, refurbishments, relocations and installations.

Carrying out basic painting, decorating and making-good works.

Completing bespoke projects that require practical thinking, adaptability and problem-solving skills.

Our assignments can range from simple furniture assembly to more involved installations and specialist projects. We are looking for someone who is confident in their abilities while also recognising when a task requires specialist knowledge or additional support.

Additional Operational Responsibilities

When not undertaking allocated handyman assignments, you may be required to assist with other services provided by the company, including:

Deliveries & Collections: Transporting furniture, goods, equipment and other items between client locations.

Property Checks: Visiting properties to conduct inspections, condition checks, key collections and other property-related duties.

Portering: Moving furniture, deliveries, equipment and materials within offices, commercial buildings and other premises.

Labouring: Providing hands-on assistance with installations, relocations, warehouse operations and other projects.

Logistics Support: Assisting with loading, unloading, packing, handling and preparing goods for transport.

General Operational Support: Supporting colleagues and undertaking other reasonable duties required across our various services.

We are looking for someone who understands that flexibility is a fundamental part of this position and is equally willing to undertake a straightforward delivery as they are a skilled installation.

Skills & Experience

Essential Requirements

Full, valid UK driving licence.

Right to work in UK

Proven experience in handyman work, maintenance, installation, furniture assembly or a similar practical trade.

A broad range of practical skills and confidence using hand tools, power tools and other equipment safely.

Good knowledge of furniture assembly, fixing methods, basic carpentry and general property maintenance.

The ability to work independently and complete assignments without constant supervision.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to assess tasks and identify practical solutions.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.

A professional, presentable and polite manner when interacting with clients.

Good communication and organisational skills.

Physical capability to safely undertake manual handling and practical tasks.

Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic.

Willingness to assist with deliveries, portering, labouring and other operational duties when required.

Desirable Experience

Carpentry or joinery.

Office furniture installations and commercial fit-outs.

Building timber crates or bespoke wooden structures.

Commercial property maintenance and repairs.

Office relocations and furniture dismantling/reassembly.

Driving commercial vans.

Working in high-end offices, commercial premises or luxury retail environments.

Good geographical knowledge of London and the surrounding areas.

We do not expect one person to be an expert in every trade. What matters is having a strong foundation of practical skills, the confidence to approach different challenges and the willingness to continue learning.

The Person We're Looking For

While technical skills and experience are important, we believe the right attitude, character and work ethic are equally valuable.

We are looking for someone who:

Takes pride in their work: Treats every assignment, regardless of its size or complexity, with the same level of care and professionalism.

Is a natural problem-solver: Looks for solutions rather than excuses and can think independently when faced with challenges.

Shows initiative: Takes ownership of their responsibilities and looks for ways to help without always needing to be asked.

Is adaptable and versatile: Enjoys variety and is willing to turn their hand to different tasks as business needs change.

Understands customer service: Appreciates that how we communicate, behave and present ourselves is just as important as the work we deliver.

Is a genuine team player: Recognises that supporting colleagues and contributing to the wider business is part of everyone's responsibility.

Is ambitious and motivated: Wants to continue developing their skills, taking on responsibility and progressing professionally.

We value individuals who don't simply complete the task they have been given but take the time to consider how it can be done better, more efficiently and to the highest possible standard.

More Than Just a Job – Grow With Us

As a family-run business, we have worked hard to build a company based on trust, strong relationships, high standards and a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional service.

We have ambitious plans for the future, and we recognise that achieving those ambitions depends on having the right people alongside us.

We are not simply looking for the most skilled or experienced person. We are looking for someone who shares our values, aligns with the vision of our family company and genuinely wants to grow alongside it.

We want someone who sees this position as more than just another job. Someone who wants to become an important part of the business, contribute their own ideas, take on greater responsibility and play a meaningful role in our continued success.

As our company grows, we want the people who help us achieve that growth to have the opportunity to develop and progress with us.

For the right individual, this is an opportunity to build a long-term career within an ambitious company, broaden their experience across multiple services and become a valued member of our team.
