About the Role

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and high-achieving secondary school in Romford. This is an exciting opportunity to support students aged 11-16 (or 11-18 where applicable) as they progress through their education and develop both academically and personally.

Working alongside teachers and the wider pastoral team, you will provide classroom support, deliver targeted interventions, and help students overcome barriers to learning. You will play a key role in promoting student engagement, confidence, and independence while contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Whether you are an experienced Teaching Assistant, a recent graduate considering a career in education, or someone with experience working with young people, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive school community.

Key Responsibilities

Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across a range of subject areas.

Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning, improve attainment, and build confidence.

Provide additional support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where appropriate.

Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy and promote high expectations.

Support students with organisation, study skills, and independent learning.

Assist with preparing classroom resources and maintaining an effective learning environment.

Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Help create an inclusive classroom where every student feels supported and able to succeed.

Supervise students during breaktimes, educational visits, or enrichment activities where required.

Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents to support students' academic and personal development.

The Ideal Candidate

Experience working with secondary-aged students in a school, youth work, mentoring, coaching, or similar setting is desirable but not essential.

A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them reach their full potential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A calm, patient, and adaptable approach.

The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics; relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

About the School

This welcoming and well-resourced secondary school has a strong commitment to academic excellence, student wellbeing, and inclusive education. Staff work collaboratively to create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve their best, develop confidence, and prepare for future success.

The school values professional development and offers a supportive culture where staff are encouraged to grow their skills and progress in their careers. With excellent leadership, modern facilities, and a strong focus on student achievement, this is an excellent opportunity to join a thriving school community.
