Aspire People is delighted to be working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in West Derby that is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Teaching Assistant who has experience supporting children with additional needs and, importantly, has strong behaviour management skills.

The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, develop their independence and feel supported within the classroom and wider school environment.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide targeted one–to–one and small–group support to pupils with SEND across KS1 and KS2.

Support pupils with their learning, emotional well–being and social development.

Use effective behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement.

Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement individual support plans and classroom strategies.

Help pupils access the curriculum through appropriate adaptations and differentiated activities.

Encourage independence, confidence and positive relationships.

Support pupils both academically and socially throughout the school day.

Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents and external professionals where appropriate.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a Teaching Assistant who has:

Previous experience working with children with SEND or additional needs.

Strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to manage challenging behaviour effectively.

A calm, patient and consistent approach.

The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

A flexible, proactive and supportive approach.

A genuine commitment to inclusion and safeguarding.

The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

Two professional references.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
